Tanqueray Dry Gin

United Kingdom

Description

For many years Tanqueray has been the “go-to” gin if you wanted to upgrade your Gordon’s gin. It has been the first step for many into the new world of gin tastes and what a good Gin & Tonic with a quality tonic could taste like.

Tanqueray London Dry Gin is one of the most sold gins in the world. The recipe dates back to 1830th when Charles Tanqueray started his distillery in Bloomsbury, London. The recipe we know today is first described in records that dates back to 1838 and the gin has stayed true to its original recipe ever since (although the recognizable green bottle was not introduced until 1948). Charles’ son grew the business successfully and merged with Gordon’s Gin in 1898 which made the company the leading distilling company. They have stayed on top of the gin business throne ever since. In 1979 Tanqueray sold a staggering 1 million cases of gin. Today it is owned by Diageo – a leading spirit company with many world known brands – and now sells more that 2 million 9-liter cases every year.

The gin is produced with botanicals like juniper, angelica, licorice and coriander and the taste is very juniper dominant. It is a very versatile and straight forward gin and not a very complex in its taste. It’s juniper taste goes very well with classic tonics like Fever-Tree Indian Tonic, Pelegrino Tonic and Thomas Henry Tonic, but also with the sweeter tonics like Fever-Tree Mediterranean or Indi Tonic.
